All-in-one package

 Download 1.3 zip (stable)
 Download 1.4-SNAPSHOT zip (latest snapshot)

The all-in-one package is a zip archive containing the application (PhenoTips), together with a web server to run it (Jetty), and a database to store all the data (HSQLDB). It is a convenient way to try out PhenoTips without a dedicated server, but this package is not optimized for production use.

Installation and usage

This package requires the presence of Java 1.7.0+ on your system in order to function. To get started with the standalone package, simply download the zip archive, extract it, and run the start.sh (on Mac or Linux) or start.bat (on Windows). The program will start after a few seconds during which it initializes its components. A browser window should open automatically; if not, you can manually launch a web browser (please avoid Internet Explorer < 9 for best results) and open http://localhost:8080/ to access PhenoTips. To close the server, either press Ctrl+C in the console window where it was started, or launch stop.sh/stop.bat. All the data is preserved between sessions, and it can later be exported and imported back into a production server, once one is configured.

WAR package: scalable for intensive use

 Download 1.3 war (stable)
 Download 1.4-SNAPSHOT war (latest snapshot)

The war package is a Web application ARchive, which requires a separate Java servlet application server and a dedicated database to be configured. This gives complete control over the application server and database to use.

Installation and usage

Detailed installation instructions for the war distribution are available as part of the administration guide.

RPM package: fast installation for RHEL-based distributions

 Download 1.3 rpm (stable)
 Download 1.4-SNAPSHOT rpm (latest snapshot)

The rpm package is an easy installer for Linux distributions which use the RPM Package Manager. It was primarily built for Red Hat Enterprise Linux-based distributions (such as RHEL, CentOS, Scientific Linux) and depends on the Tomcat servlet container.
